ஆதியில் பெருங்குடி கோத்திரத்தார் கொங்கதேசத்தே நிலைபெறுகையில் ஏற்பட்ட மடம். குருசாமிகள் சிதம்பரம் தீக்ஷதர்கள் வம்சாவளி. வாங்கல் பெருங்குடியிலிருந்து அண்ணமார் காலத்தே பிரிந்த பங்காளிகளான புலியூர் பெருங்குடியினருக்கும் குலகுருவாயிருப்பவர். மோகனூர் மணிய கோத்திரத்தார் சிவகிரி மடத்தையும், கண்ணந்தை கோத்திரத்தார் மோகனூர் மடத்தையும் குலகுருக்களாகக் கொண்டுள்ளனர்.

தற்சமயம் ஏழ்மை காரணமாக வெண்ணைமலை சென்று வாழ்ந்து வருகின்றனர். இருப்பினும் சிஷ்யர்களது நன்மைக்கான ஆத்மார்த்த பூஜைகளை ஆசார அனுஷ்டானத்தோடு தொடர்ந்து செய்து வருகின்றனர். சிஷ்யர்களோ குலகுருவை மறந்துவிட்டனர் (சிலரைத்தவிர)

How did Auroville begin?

Madurai was an important cultural and commercial centre even as early as 550 AD. It was the capital city for the great Pandya kings.
